Poor embryo quality is not the only cause of infertility or recurrent miscarriage. To have a baby, a number of vital steps must occur. One of the most important steps is that the mother’s immune system must recognize the developing embryo as a baby and not as a foreign microbe or cancer. Her immune system must also become tolerant of the embryo and allow the embryo to survive. If this does not occur, the mother’s immune system will destroy the embryo, resulting in a negative pregnancy test or in a miscarriage. An embryo must also attach to the uterus and obtain nourishment from an adequate blood supply. Various disorders of the blood’s clotting system restrict the ability of an embryo to obtain nourishment and therefore inhibit implantation or kill the embryo. In addition, proper functioning of the maternal hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis is critical for a healthy pregnancy.

I am a fertility consultant and my job is to help you determine the cause of your infertility or miscarriages and obtain the appropriate medical treatments. I am astounded to see that many Reproductive Endocrinologists continue to stimulate their patients’ ovaries cycle after cycle without looking beyond embryo quality for a cause of infertility and miscarriage. Most of my clients have never heard of tests such as NK cytotoxicity assays, T regulatory cells, uterine NK cells, MTHFR and insulin resistance to name just a few. They have never tried treatments such as Intravenous Immunoglobulin, Lymphocyte Immune Transfer, Humira, Lovenox or Metformin. If they have, the treatments were not used appropriately or aggressively enough.

I have a Ph.D. in Immunology and Pathology from the University of California, Los Angeles and have completed a rigorous post-doctoral fellowship in Immunology. At the age of 32, after failing multiple IUI and IVF cycles, I was given the diagnosis “unexplained fertility” and “poor embryo quality”. Fortunately, I did not agree and used my scientific background to determine a cause for my infertility. I was also told that the treatments for my hematologic, immunologic and endocrine abnormalities would not work. But I was not deterred! I am now the mother of TWO beautiful daughters that I conceived naturally after using appropriate medical treatments. I created Conceivable Solutions so that I could use both my scientific expertise and my personal experiences to help other women achieve their goals of becoming parents. I have had much success and this spurs both my passion for my work and my commitment to my clients.
